Roel is the Founder of MOYU - On A Mission To Create A New Circular Paper Industry By Creating Rewritable Products Made Out Of Stone Paper. He has taken the challenge to answer our 20 Truth Questions, For us to gain some insight, And learn the Truth about the person behind the venture.



My TRUTH Story:

1. INTRODUCE YOURSELF IN THE THIRD PERSON TO A CROWD OF 10,000+ PEOPLE?

Roel is on a mission to change the paper industry into becoming a circular industry. Finding out that it was the number 3 global polluter with hardly anyone working on solutions was the igniting moment for him.


Based in the Netherlands, He is working on MOYU; Stone paper products on different rewritable and reusable solutions, like notebooks and packaging.


Launching the Stone Paper Alliance last year was a big milestone him, with the goal of building the first stone paper factory to establish recycling in Europe.


2. WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A TRUTH FOUNDER? I see myself more as the guy who does not know how to fix the problems, but tries to and along the way share all the progress made in hopes of getting more people on board.


Therefore A Truth Founder for me is someone who is always very open about all the successes and struggles they are having.


Working for years on personal development and spiritual practices, I hope to be able to separate our goals as a company from my personal ego.


3. WHAT EVENT OR EVENTS HAPPENED TO YOU THAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A FOUNDER?

Reading "the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible" which talks about so many systemic changes that are possible.


It put's a lot of issues we have as a society and our planet into a clear perspective, and introduced me to solutions.


4. WHAT IS YOUR MORNING ROUTINE & RITUAL? 10 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes of breathwork, And a smoothie afterwards.


5. WHAT MANTRA,QUOTE,LINE OR PHRASE DO YOU SAY OFTEN TO INSPIRE AND MOTIVATE YOURSELF? Never stop playing.


There is so many things that can go wrong on a daily basis, But in the end we are just living and you should enjoy life and play along the way!


Lately: Pick up the breadcrumbs and you will find the way. More and more I see that if you push less and be open to new things, And you will always find the right inspiration and the right people along the way. Connect these dots and you will find your passion!


6. WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE SHOULD CARE ABOUT YOUR VENTURE? We are currently working on changing one of the most polluting industries in the world into a more sustainable one. We have a solutions that's ready to be scaled globally that can save billions of trees, liters of water and energy.


7. WHY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE THE ONE TO MAKE YOUR VENTURE A SUCCESS?

I'm intrinsically driven to make the world a better place and therefore have a clear roadmap of why we are doing what we are doing. Other than that I'm good with people!


8. WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE FOR YOUR VENTURE? ( START WITH: IMAGINE A WORLD... WHAT IF... WE WILL BE... )

We use local waste, like stone waste to produce water & chemical free paper and cardboard products that are used for a longer period of time (reused) and then recycled locally again.


We then start transforming local waste materials for paper and packaging materials instead of taking from the forests.


It creates a more locally based paper industry, like it was hundreds of years ago, without any large players; And therefore creates local jobs and local wealth.


9. ANSWER THESE AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE - I BELIEVE... I DON'T BELIEVE... I believe a more beautiful world is really possible.


I believe we can create a world were we fall in love with nature again and start living in and with it instead of using it.


I believe stone paper is a solution that can transform the planet.


I don't believe people are just individualistic beings creating as much value just for themselves.


10. WHAT'S ONE DECISION YOU MADE AS A FOUNDER THAT COMPLETELY CHANGED THE COURSE OF YOUR JOURNEY? Setting up the stone paper alliance; Wherefrom we shifted from a reusable notebook company into working in the paper and cardboard industry, opening doors to the big volumes where impact is truly made.


11. WHAT DO YOU REGARD AS YOUR GREATEST SUCCESS PERSONALLY & AS A FOUNDER? Everyone that has ever worked for MOYU feels like a real MOYU-er and I still have friendships with many of them. They felt heard, part of the team and were proud to work for MOYU.


12. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY? Being loving and very friendly; And my jokes.


13. WHAT'S ONE THING YOU CAN IMPROVE ABOUT YOURSELF, AND WHY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE NOT DONE IT BY NOW?

I'm an overthinker and can sometimes put myself in last place.


14. WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED OR GIVEN, OR BOTH?

Find your passion and live it; Stop working on something you don't love.


15. ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10 - 10 BEING THE BEST. HOW WELL DO YOU THINK YOU AND YOUR TRUTH STORY IS CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD BY YOUR COMMUNITY? ( WHY NOT 10? ) 7, Because there is not much awareness about the paper industry.


A lot of people have the assumption it's sustainable because it's from trees and it's easily recyclable.

17. DESCRIBE YOUR VENTURE - ELEVATOR PITCH STYLE?

We are on a mission to create a new circular paper industry by creating rewritable products made out of stone paper, with a 94% CO2 saving and on top of that we plant a tree for every product sold.


We are setting the tone for a regenerative paper industry based on waste materials that reforests the planet.


We founded in 2019 and since then were able to plant 250.000 trees and thus have sold over 250.000 products.


We are active in most European countries with the focus on the Benelux and the DACH region.


Our team consist of 10 people and we are based in Utrecht.


18. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT MISSION STATEMENT OR MESSAGE + MARKET FIT FOR YOUR VENTURE?

Creating a circular paper industry that reforests the planet.


Our current market fit is best in the gifting and promotional industry for sustainable goodies.


19. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TO UNWIND AFTER A LONG WORK DAY?

Kickboxing.


20. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU TREATED YOURSELF TO AND WHAT DID YOU CELEBRATE? I bought a gravel bike to go on bike packing holidays.
